The story of private eye of Raymond Chandler, Philip Marlowe has all the ingredients needed to be thrilling and compelling but it falls short. With a worn-out Liam Neeson playing the main role, director Neil Jordan is working from a story by William Monahan that is dull and maybe most scary of all. Cutting between perplexing subplots with little interest in the main plot, the film struggles to be fascinating or even mildly humorous. Marlowe struggles to live up to expectations despite having a terrific cast, fumbling around and never really finding its footing.
